F. Mister Fox puts up with a lot. He's a dog, so it's doubtful that he's thrilled about being dressed in a hat and squeezed tight. But he puts up with it because he knows that it makes our home so happy.
In 2004 we went to Australia for a month on an amazing vacation adventure. Kat was a regular Doctor Doolittle, and immediately won the hearts of 'roos and koalas alike!
When we moved to Washington, D.C. for a few years the capital's design scene welcomed Kat as if she was a conquering hero. This is one of several articles about how she was storming the town. She could make DC look better, but she couldn't make IT better.
The Castle Is Ours!
This shot was taken on the day that we closed on the purchase of our home. We were so excited because we knew it would change our lives in the best of ways, and we were correct.
There She Goes Again
Rain or shine, winter, spring, summer or fall, Kat is going to have some crafty project under way, which makes sense given that she's a designer. She covered this table with red and blue pills for a show house project in Connecticut. She could have used a helper with tiny hands.
Gettin' The Trash Out
We love our beaches in Montauk so much, and nothing makes us more upset than to see them covered in trash from visitors who don't pick up after themselves. Every year we help in the town-wide beach cleanup.
Kat made this wallpaper with help from a friend of ours, for a celebrity client's children's room. The wallpaper is classic Kat -- big, bold, and fun loving. She can't wait to create new wallpaper for our own child's room.
Here Kat is holding a very special present -- a full-figured owl puppet whose head spins all the way around. He was pressed into service immediately, in our last puppet show. He was a hit, naturally.
Kat and her sister Jen grew up riding horses. Jen is very much a part of our lives and she is just as crafty as Kat is, though a lot of her energy goes into complicated deserts. Yum!
Kat knows her way around a set of architectural plans, and it's fun to watch her boss around the big brawny contractors at job sites. She's also pretty good with a hammer.
Kat was a contestant on the second season of "Top Design" on Bravo, in 2008. She made it all the way to the very end, as one of the two finalists. The producers had hoped she'd be booted sooner because she was too nice -- and wasn't willing to be mean to her fellow contestants. That's who she is.
This little guy hopped up on Kat's shoulder when we visited him at his home in Costa Rica -- a tiny zoo literally in some lady's house up in the hills of Samara. Kat considers this moment one of the great highlights of her entire life. (He's a baby howler monkey.)
We went to Fiji for our honeymoon. It was an amazing trip and Kat immediately found a kinship with the local designers.
Here's Kat is in all her glamour at the Sunset Tower in Los Angeles. In this shot she's all dressed up for pitch meetings in Hollywood. She is always pursuing different projects and spent the first half of her career working as a movie and TV set designer.
Good Morning Vietnam
This is an action shot. It shows Kat in a small Vietnamese village where she discovered all sorts of amazing designs. She sprung into action to snatch up the best finds.
One reason Kat gets so much attention is that she knows how to make a home beautiful. This was our office in Washington and it was one of the coolest rooms in town.
